This Week's Featured Video #1 - Triptides - Can't You See

How can you not love this song? I bounced upon this song and quickly noticed the album cover.something about it was quite familiar including the circular fisheye lens photo of the ban. Oh yes, it is a dead ringer for that jangle-pop classic "Mr. Tambourine Man". That was enough to draw me in and give a listen. And how glad I am at having done so. What a fine slice of jangle pop. The band left their hometown of Bloomington, IN. for the folk-rock capitol of the world, Los Angeles CA.

Here is the bandcamp link of the song.

This Week's Featured Video #2 - Cherry Ghost - Thirst For Romance

Do you like a pinch of Alternate (Alt) Country? How about a dash of Indie Pop. If you answered at all in the affirmative, then head right over to the link and listen to this driving tune from Britain's Cherry Ghost. The attention-grabbing lyrics have a way of twirling around inside your brain and you soak them all in and have that aha moment.

This Week's Featured Video #3 - The Rhinos - Everything That She Believed

A 21st Century song that I have grown to love over time. The more you play it, the more it gets under your skin. The interplay between lead guitar and organ is truly majestic. See what I mean. From their second CD "In Rhi-Fi"

This Week's Featured Video #4 - Three Hour Tour - Love Sick Trip

Here is my favorite "Power Pop" song of all time "Love Sick  Trip" by Three Hour Tour. The music reaches out and just grabs your attention. Yet the lyrics are a sheer marvel in and of themselves. How can you go wrong with
words such as this? "If only time stood still and sat on the window sill would you be happy then just to keep it there?" And this from a band supposedly named after the "Theme from Gilligan's Island" TV Show.

This Week's Featured Video #5 - Death Cab for Cutie & Rose Polenzani - Soul Meets Body

Haven't featured much alternate rock lately. Thus it must be time to do so. There are still masterpieces to be found within this genre. Here is one.
The trick for many bands is to maintain a valid intellectually challenging and stimulating artistic vision while bringing it all to the masses. 'Death Cab For Cuties' no exactly how to perform such a balancing feat. And do so with flying colors. "Soul Meets Body" is a perfect example. As if this glorious song isn't enough in its stupendous original form, do be sure to check out the truly stunning version performed by The Electronic Anthology Project featuring vocals by Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and electronic wizardry by Built to Spill's Brett Nelson. As a sweetner, listen to Rose Polenzani's minimalist version stripped bare to voice and acoustic guitar.

Here is the Elctronic Anthlogy Project version

Classic Music Rediscovered - Cindy Williams - They Talk About Us

This song may be the most obscure song worthy of this blog that I have found yet. I'm reaching way back into the past now as this cameout around 1967. As I understand it, she only issued two 45s both only in the U.K. This tune should have been a massive hit. FYI, this is not the same Cindy Williams that appeared on Laverne & Shirley in the seventies. This Cindy Williams came from Swansea in Wales.Boy, can she belt out a song. BTW, It took ages to find a place that plays it Now, mercifully Youtube finally showcases it.

New Musical Discoveries - Courtney Barnett - Need A Little Time

Here is a brand new single which serves as a teaser for Courtney's new album due out on May.18. If this song is any indication, I can hardly wait. From the moment, Courtney sang her first line, I was immediately enthralled. And the tune continues to get better from there. An thoroughly engaging bit of folk- rock, indie pop, and alt-rock. As a further enticement, the video perfectly fits the breezy nature of the tune, from the first outfitting by possible robots to the 2001 allusions. Check it out today!

New Musical Discoveries 36 - Cotton Mather Spin My Wheels

I am very sorry but I'm still on my Beatlesque jag. But I have to say this is one of the best. What would you expect
from a band named after everyone's favorite preacher. To make it an added bonus it leads off with my favored Electic version although the original version is no slouch.

Here Is the original Version. Which do you prefer?

God I Love This Music!

New Musical Discoveries - Cotton Mather & Nicole Atkins - Call Me The Witch

What a splendid collaboration, I for one would not have thought of putting these two apparently disparate artists in the same room let alone in a collaboration. However, since I quite like both artists I was brave enough to give it a whirl. Sure am glad. but amazinglyly it works remarkeably well. Who Knew?

New Musical Discoveries - Rose Betts - Song to the Siren

First off is a stunning acoustic version of this monumental masterpiece orginally surfacing in the movie Zach Snyder's Justice League. Gravefully performed by Rose Betts

Next up is Elizabeth Fraser's (formerly of the Cocteau Twins - this performed with her offshoot band This Mortal Coil) Such a gloriously intense version

Here is the personification of cool 90s style from none other than Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) He rises to the occasion I am glad to report.

Not to be outdone Alt-Rock darlings Garbage once again rise to the occasion not seen since their awesome James Bond opus, "The World Is Not Enough". Savage.

You have to hand it to the Irish (in this case the band Celtic Women) to come up with a stupendous passionate version convyeying all the intrinsic pathos of the tune.

New Musical Discoveries - DRAMAS - Libra

Yes, it is with great pleasure to be able to showcase a ewcwnt release of an acquired classic. Be sure to let it percolate. A veritable masterpiece has unfolded before our very ears And what a treat it is both musically and lyrically. in this instance, you and I are the winners, blog readers.

For your curiosity I have gone ahead and added the ethereal lyrics.I hope they only add to the charm

Splendid lovers spin around
In an addict's room
Release them before they start
Settling down in doom

Yearning for eternal float
Is the safer path
But is there a chance of
Entire fulfillment

What's so heavy on this mind
It's the weight of the burden

Ordinary people choose
Weight over lightness
Sticking to the ground of risk
Don't mean 'no return'

What's so heavy on this mind
It's the weight of the burden

What is love

New Musical Discoveries - Alvvays - In Undertow

Some of you undoubtedly view me as being a sucker for gentle ephemeral female vocals. Well, you aren't half wrong. A recent case in point, 'Alvvays' and their catchy single "In Undertow". How catchy can a song really be? Proof that the oft-maligned shoegazing movement not only lives on but in fact shines!

New Musical Discoveries - Andrew Gold - Space And Time

I quite love this track For its spot-on recreation of The Byrds classic sound and in particular their sound form their 3rd LP enitled 5D when Roger McGuinn excelled on his trademark pre-psychedelic 12 string guitar sound. First up is the remasteresd version with its Sgt. Pepperesque album cover

Here is the version with the Original LP Cover - What a classic!
