New Musical Discoveries - The National - The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness

Yet another masterwork from The National. The more I listen to this band, the more I am convinced that they are here to fill the void incurred due to the passing of Leonard Cohen. Truly an awesome band. amazing how the lyrics perfectly mesh with the music and performance. What is truly heartening is that this song appears on their most recent album. They are only hitting their stride.

My goodness, obscure no longer. I was beyond astonished to see that this tune has accumulated over 2 million views on YouTube. in fact, as of today, it has 2,984,880 views to be precise. No doubt, with the modest publicity coming out this blog, the viewership number can vault ahead of the 3 million mark. We can all wish.

They are reminiscent to 'The Dum Dum Girls'  or even 'The Raveonettes' albeit perhaps not as aggressive.. Love the video filed in beautiful Montreal. You will too:)

From the very first sound of the tambourine, I knew I would love this song. Perhaps the finest example of pop neo-psychedelia of the modern era. The song just grows on you. A further testament to the song's appeal is the issuance of a cover by Sune Rose Wagner, the often overlooked mastermind of those wunderkinds 'The Raveonettes', on a rare solo venture. We know where his heart lies.
